MAUCHA ADNET, VOCALS & PERCUSSION

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Maucha Adnet started singing professionally at age 15 as part of the vocal group Céu da Boca, from 1978 to 1984. With Céu da Boca, Maucha toured around Brazil and recorded two albums released by Polygram.

From 1984 until 1994, Maucha performed all over the world with legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and that’s how she ended up in New York, where she has been leaving since 1987. With Jobim and his Banda Nova, Maucha recorded Passarim” (Polygram, Verve, 1987), “Antonio Brasileiro” Grammy Winner (Sony Music, 1995), “Tom Jobim Inédito”(BMG-Ariola, 1995), and “Rio Revisited”(Polygram, Verve, 1987).

Since living in New York, Maucha has been working with her own band and participating in many recordings and shows with artists such as Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton, Claudio Roditi, Duduka Da Fonseca, Trio da Paz, Mario Adnet, Winton Marsalis, Bucky Pitzarelli and many others.

Maucha was a guest vocalist in the Latin Grammy Award Winner album Jobim Sinfônico (CD e DVD, Adventure Music/Biscoito Fino,Brasil), which was produced by Mario Adnet and Paulo Jobim; “Slide Plays Jobim”, with Duduka Da Fonseca” on the Grammy nominee CD “Samba Jazz Fantasia”(Anzic Records), with Randy Brecker on the Grammy Winner CD, “Into the Sun”.

Maucha also teaches in workshops on the subject of Brazilian Music in many parts of the world spreading her expertise in phrasing and interpreting in different Brazilian Styles of Music.

HELIO ALVES, PIANO

Pianist Helio Alves had a long-time association with Claudio Roditi, worked with Joe Henderson and his list of credits (besides leading seven albums of his own) include Paquito D’Rivera, John Pizzarelli, and Flora Purim & Airto Moreira. He has also been part of several of Duduka Da Fonseca’s albums and projects.

GUILHERME MONTEIRO, ACOUSTIC GUITAR

Brazilian born guitarist Guilherme Monteiro has made an impact in the NY scene since leaving the Monk Institute in 2000. Crossing over many different genres he recorded and toured with Ron Carter, Luciana Souza, Lila Downs, Eliane Elias, Jesse Harris and Kurt Elling, among others.

With his band, Forro In The Dark he has been helping to re-define Brazilian music for this century, having people like David Byrne contribute to their unique blend of Country/Downtown NY sound. He also wrote the original score for the Vice Magazine produced movie “Toxic Amazon”, the upcoming documentary, “Diamond River” and can be heard on numerous recordings aside from his own album entitled “Air”, which came out in 2009.

Besides leading his own group, Guilherme holds a guitar chair in both Anat Cohen's Anzic Orchestra, Michael Blake’s Chroma Nova and starting in 2013 he decided to go back and forth between Rio and NY to work with Brazilian singer Gal Costa on a series of projects before her passing. While in Brazil he also recorded with singers Elza Soares and Erasmo Carlos, to name a few. Recently, Guilherme released the album “Samba of Sorts” with Helio Alves and fellow Brazilian Jazz musicians from Unity Quartet on the Sunnyside label.

ITAIGUARA BRANDÃO, BASS

Itaiguara Brandão is a New York City-based recording artist and bassist. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Brandão has toured internationally and recorded extensively with a wide range of Latin and World Music artists such as Dianne Reeves, Ivan Lins, Marcos Valle, Toquinho, Carlos Lyra, Roberto Menescal, Leny Andrade, Joyce (singer), Paulo Braga, Randy Brecker, Paquito D'Rivera, Claudio Roditi, Robin Eubanks, Jovino Santos-Neto, Emílio Santiago, Elba Ramalho, Guilherme Arantes, Romero Lubambo, Léo Gandelman among many others. He has recorded on major labels and played on the 22nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards winning album Ancestras by Petrona Martínez. Brandão has been one of the most sought-after Brazilian bassists in the Northeast and freelance musicians in the United States, having completed nearly 8,000 performances in the past 32 years.

Itaiguara Brandão attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and studied jazz improvisation with the legendary Charlie Banacos and arranging with Mike Longo (Dizzy Gillespie's music director for 9 years). He was awarded a Berklee Achievement Scholarship for musical excellence in 1995 and graduated summa cum laude in 1997. Brandão also holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1991).

Itaiguara has played on major venues such as the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Brandão is a contributor to the educational book/CD "Inside the Brazilian Rhythm Section," by Nelson Faria/Cliff Korman - a guide for bassists, guitarists, pianists and drummers on the eight most dominant styles of Brazilian music: samba, bossa nova, partido alto, choro, baiao, frevo, marcha-rancho and afoxé, published by Sher Music in 2005.

Itaiguara has a master's degree in jazz composition from Aaron Copland School of Music (Queens College, New York) and received the Marvin Hamlisch Award in 2019.
