DISCOVER THE MUSIC OF HUGO KAUDER
In 1945 the Gordon String Quartet, Music Mountain’s founding quartet, championed the music of the Czech composer Hugo Kauder (1888-1972), whose nineteen string quartets are rooted in tonality, generous melodies, folk songs, dances, and fugal writing. The result is both exotic and familiar at the same time, evocative of European music of the 19th Century and of pentatonic patterns of the Far East. In recent years Hugo Kauder’s music is experiencing renewed interest and many performances. Rediscover the music of Hugo Kauder at Music Mountain in this pre-concert talk with the Euclid Quartet, Helen Kauder—granddaughter of Hugo Kauder—, and members of the Hugo Kauder Society.
